August 29, 2007 - LAPS Mourns the Loss of Snowball

It is with much sadness that I must announce the loss of a very special LAPS member, Snowball. Snowball made his journey to the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, August 25th. He was 5 years and 2 months old.

Snowball was an extraordinary pig that lived his life to the fullest. He was a LAPS piggy despite having a malocclusion. For the past couple of years, Snowball had to have his molars and incisors trimmed by his vet every month. The procedure left his teeth sore for several days but he managed to maintain his LAPS weight despite the troubles. Much of the credit can be given to his slave, Carla, who lovingly syringed him critical care and fed him more edible portions of his favorite treats. Snowball was also the drummer of the infamous band, the Rumblestrut Blues. He even had the opportunity to write his own song with the help of his brother Snickers entitled Super Wheek. You may remember jamming to this song at the Piggy Olympics earlier this year. Snowball loved to travel too. He rode on his favorite airline, PigAir, to places like England, France, Lake Elsinore and California (to see his girlfriend Cookie). Snowball leaves behind his slaves (Carla and Tony), his brother Apache and his doggy brother Fluffy. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

August 24, 2007 - A Training Program Graduate

Lots of wheeks go out to Neo whose slave just reported that he graduated from the LAPS training program. He now weighs an awesome 3lbs. 1oz! Congratulations Neo!

August 22, 2007 - Welcome Minnie, LAPS Newest Member!

Hey, all you LAPS piggies. Let's welcome our newest member, ironically named, Minnie. I recently flew out on PigAir to meet Minnie. I mean, with a name like Minnie, I just had to meet her. When I asked her to tell me her story, this is what she had to say:

"Mom got me last October from Karen of Cavy Rescue New England. Mom says I'm one of the sweetest piggies she's ever had, and I spend lots of time with mom's four year old great neice, Bethan. Mom has made it her mission to make sure Bethan is a pig person, and, with my help, is succeeding!
I live with my adopted sister Pippin, who was rescued from a home in Wakfield MA. Our other roomies are Petunia and Corkster. They are a biological mother/daughter team, and, while I love them dearly, they can be quite the divas! They are portly piggies, but lack the proper body type for LAPS piggies, poor dears. I hate to sound crude but, well, they're abys and I've always found them a tad less ample than we Americans. But they certainly enjoy a good meal!"

Congratulations Minnie and welcome to the club!

A Congratulations also is due to Minnie's adopted sister Pippin. She officially joined the roster as a LAPS piggy in training. Pippin weighs just a bit shy of 3lbs. but fortunately Minnie is her personal trainer. Minnie reports on her progress: "I am trying hard with Pippin, but have my doubts. She uses too much energy running back and forth when she hears the fridge, and biting the cage with her toofies to make sure Mommy notices her. I keep trying to tell her a couple subtle "bwoot bwoot bwoots" will get her the treats without her working up a sweat, but she won't listen!"

August 19, 2007 - Warm Welcomes to Sugar, Our Newest Member

Please extend a warm welcome to our newest member, Sugar. Sugar is 5 years old and weighs a lovely 3lbs. 2oz. She lives in Arkansas with her cousins. She hasn't always lived in Arkansas though. She's originally from New York City but when her first cage mate passed on to the Rainbow Bridge, her slave thought she would be less lonely if she moved in with her cousins. A fun plane ride later, she now resides in Arkansas. She has adjusted living with her cousins and has mastered that art of begging for snacks. Now she's loving life as a large, ample piggy. Her cousins are adjusting to her too but her cousin Cindy is a bit green with jealously, she only weighs 2lbs., 8oz. That's okay Cindy, we'll sign you up as a LAPS pig in training.

August 15, 2007 - Welcome Our Newest Member - Baisil!

Liz's Baisil

Baisil is the newest LAPS member weighing in at 3.5 lbs.! Baisil is a very unique piggy indeed. She loves to lay on her back so that her slave Liz can rub her belly.
